First impressions are easily made and hard to change. My first impression of Cantina la 20 is that I hope I never go back.
Went for the free margaritas for ladies on Wednesdays from 5-10 p.m. Seemed like a bargain, I was excited to go.
Heads up, it’s inside the W Hotel.
We get there and the bartender almost broke my ID checking to make sure it’s real. Woman, I’m 23 years old. Call the cops if you will.
The margarita was incredibly strong, and that’s an understatement. Three sips in and the room was a little blurry already. If you don’t believe me, I dare you to go try it!
A few of us were drinking and feeling like spending money on food. I mean, the drinks were free, the least we could do is get something to eat. Alas! We weren’t allowed to! That’s something I’d never encountered – a place that wouldn’t let you eat while you drank.
My friends and I asked the hostess if we could get a table (we were seven guests, so at a place so expensive, imagine how much they were going to make). Then, she tells me that we’re forced to finish our drink at the bar. First off, this place was empty and you don’t want to make money?
I ask her again in Spanish if we could sit and eat in peace and she continues to push that we are forced to drink at the bar and we’re not allowed to eat until we don’t have a drink in our hands. The bar area was pretty narrow so even with my party of seven plus four other women there, the aisle was already crowded.
With the cranky hostess and the bartender who almost broke my ID, we left as soon as possible. I’m sure the food is great there if I gave it another try but like I said, first impressions are hard to renew.
